The Bosque Education Guide is an interdisciplinary curriculum about the Middle Rio Grande Valley ecosystem. The curriculum provides classroom-based and field activities for students grades K-12. For the central activity, students construct a model of the Middle Rio Grande and then manipulate the paper and cloth pieces to demonstrate human impacts over the last two hundred years. Later, they "restore" the ecosystem. The curriculum is downloadable here:

Workshop information

Workshop activities will occur indoors and outdoors. Participants should dress in comfortable clothing for the weather that day, bring a hat, comfortable walking shoes, and sunscreen. Bring a sack lunch and water bottle as well.

The cost is:  $25   Cost includes curriculum and binder (700+ pages), laminated kit, expert facilitator guides, and refreshments.

The Refuge is 5 miles south of downtown Albuquerque. From I-25 take Rio Bravo exit 220. Head west on Rio Bravo Blvd. Turn left on 2nd St. Follow 2nd St. 3.5 miles south to the Refuge—located on the right (west side) of 2nd St. Find parking inside the Refuge property.  PLEASE NOTE: There is construction on Rio Bravo Blvd. and 2nd St. so be sure to be careful, watch for flaggers, and give yourself extra time to get to the Refuge.  

This workshop is offered through funding from the Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center and US Fish and Wildlife Service—Valle de Oro, co-sponsored by the NM Museum of Natural History & Science, the Friends of Valle de Oro NWR, and the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park.
